1.In 1848 Congress created OregonTerritory through the Organic Act and accredited the legitimacy of Indian land title.
2.Treaty with the United States called for the Cow Creek tribe to give up their entire homeland to the United States for the mere price of 2.3 cents per acre
3.On August 23rd 1954 Congress passed the Western Oregon Termination Act, which suspended recognition and services to every tribe and band in western Oregon.
4.Cow Creek tribe looked to sue the United States over the money that was given to them for their land in 1848.Before the case actually went to trial the United States Government decided to settle.Both parties agreed to a tune of $1.25 per acre, which came to a total of approximately 1.5 million dollars
5.After this battle was won the Cow Creek tribe decided that it was time to be federally recognized again.On December 29, 1982 the United States Government did just that, and began to federally recognize the Cow Creeks once again.
