*Cow Creek Tribe spoke Takelma language, however today it is barely spoken


*They had their own creation stories, one involving Crater Lake

*The Cow Creeks lived between the Cascade and Coast ranges in Southwestern Oregon, concentrated along the South Umpqua River and its primary feeder stream, Cow Creek. THis is how Cow Creek got its Tribe name.

* At night old people told stories to the tribe while they looked up at the stories and wondered about life. The old ones said "that if they spied a falling star it meant the passing of a life and arrival of a new soul among the humans".

* The Cow Creek tribal individuals do not receive any special tax exemptions. Tribal members who are homeowners pay annual property taxes and receive no payroll tax relief.

* They are in charge of the Umpqua Indian Foods which is located in downtown Canyonville, about one mile from the Seven Feathers Casino. The business produces six flavors of beef jerky, hot dogs, polish dogs and peperoni. They also make hamburgers and salami.
